For over 40 years, St Matthew’s has been a Christian community in North Eugene, Oregon. We are called to Know Christ and make Christ Known in the Santa Clara Community, Eugene-Springfield, and Beyond.
We are part of the Episcopal Church in Western Oregon, the Episcopal Church, and the Anglican Communion.
We believe, “If it’s not about Love, then it’s not about God.”

Joel Skinner began working for St. Matthews in 2025 after attending for 2 years. Previously he worked in ministry for 20 years. He also teaches piano and choir, and performs locally. Joel’s hobbies include fishing, hiking and backpacking as well as gardening and carpentry.

Christine Hartbauer
Music Director
Christine Hartbauer began her ministry of music at St Matthew’s on Ash Wednesday, 2015. She is a highly skilled and versatile pianist and choral director. Chris has a profound and deep faith and understands her ministry as “helping the people of God to make a joyful noise before the Lord.”
Matt Irvin is a life-long Episcopalian who has been active with the Episcopal church since he was a youth. Matt joined St. Matthew’s not long after moving to Eugene in 2018. He had a long career working in photography and journalism and had some other interesting jobs working on a railroad and a traveling salesperson among others; he is now retired. Matt served on the vestry at St. Matt’s for more than five years. Matt is also involved in his community at a co-op and neighborhood association. In his spare time, he likes to hike and camp, and is still very active with his photography plus he also enjoys gardening.
Communications Director
Jing Liu was born in Shanghai in 1984, and now he lives in Eugene, OR. He married John Spriggs in 2020 at St. Matthew’s church. He has worked for China‘s high-speed railway bureau for three years from 2005 to 2008. Since 2008, he has worked for Belle International Holding LTD., a Hong Kong listed international retail company, as marketing manager and brand director for 15 years. He is a man who is open-minded and accepts all possibilities. He always follows the teachings of the ancient Chinese educator Confucius: “respect each other and learn from each other.” Diversity is his understanding of human society.

I have lived here in Santa Clara for 55 years. Before that 13 years in the Whiteaker neighborhood. I am married and have a son, daughter and 5 grandchildren. I very much enjoy and take pride in serving this community that I call home.

The Vestry
The Vestry is the elected group that serves as the parish leadership. Members of the Vestry are responsible for the temporal matters of running the parish as well as setting the direction and focus of the parish ministries in cooperation with the clergy. Vestry meets on the 3rd Sunday of every month after the 10 a.m. service. Meetings are always open to visitors.
